What's Happening at St. Paul's?

Kids, Youth, and Family opportunities here:

Terra Divina

Join us for Terra Divina, a spiritual practice that involves engaging with the earth. We will be meeting on Saturday, May 25th from 2:00-3:30 pm at Indian Creek Nature Center located at 5300 Otis Road in Cedar Rapids. Our gathering will take place outside on the grounds.

Similar to lectio divina, which is a sacred reading of the text, terra divina is a sacred reading of the earth. During this practice, we will spend time alone, wandering, listening and responding to the creation. The nature center will be open until 4:00 pm, so you can enjoy the facilities after the gathering.

To ensure we start on time, please arrive a few minutes early. Don't forget to bring a portable chair for your comfort! We will serve bread (or other baked good) and herbal tea at the closing. Please RSVP to Stephanie Heifner or at the following link https://forms.gle/VXWrSsRhvsnZThzr6

This gathering is part of Tending to the Sacred, a series that explores contemplative and creative spiritual practices.

Trinitarian: God and Relationship

Worship Guide: Sunday, May 26, 9:00 am

The Holy Trinity can leave us scratching our heads. We believe in one God, but there is a Trinity within God. How does that work? Three in one? One in three? And why doesn’t the Bible ever explain what the Trinity is, but then we in the church say we believe in the Trinity of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit? On Holy Trinity Sunday, we will explore God’s Holy Trinity mystery together. Join us Sunday, May 26, as we conclude the series of the Trinity: Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and God.

Neighborhood Meals Begins Monday, June 10

Join us for Neighborhood Meals! We are excited to offer free meals to anyone in need, every Monday through Friday, June 10 through August 23 (closed July 4), from 12-1:00 pm. Our program starts the Monday after school is out this summer and ends the Friday before school begins in the fall. Neighborhood Meals provides meals to families and individuals as well. Come and enjoy a meal at St. Paul’s Wesley Center, where five churches are working together to support this wonderful cause with volunteers throughout the summer.

Compassion Camp (VBS) : What Every Living Thing Needs

  • Open to ages 4 years old-5th grade
  • 9:00 am-12:00 pm
  • $25 one-time registration fee per family *financial assistance available*
  • Extended Care available from 12:00-3:00 pm (lunch included) $75 per child.
  • To register contact Julie Hanlin.

Through Compassion Camp: What Every Living Thing Needs, participants will explore what all living things need to live—shelter, food, water, air, and community—and how they can have compassion for the living earth, especially in their local ecosystems. Through awareness, gratitude, wonderment, reciprocity, and kinship, participants will consider how to become co-sustainers and participants in the work of God’s creation. Using Psalm 104 as the grounding text and additional supporting scripture, participants will closely examine the interconnectedness of the whole earth—humans alongside the more-than-human world.

United Women in Faith is Intergenerational!

Who is invited to join United Women in Faith? You are! All women, from teenagers to great-grandmothers, are encouraged to participate in fellowship, learning, and mission outreach to benefit women, children, and youth in our church, community, nation, and world. We have much to share!

For our younger St. Paul's women, we are hosting a significant event, a special Saturday morning breakfast, on June 29. This is a unique opportunity for women ages 35-50 to come together, share their experiences, and shape the future of our community. (Watch for an invitation later for our 20-34 year-olds)! We are excited to get to know you better!  Keep an eye out for your invitation in early June.

Art Exhibit by Helen Hunter

Helen bloomed late as an artist. She wished she could paint watercolors. But with no formal training, how could that happen? That wish became a reality when she read in an artist's book that "you can learn to paint." Please view Helen Hunter's art in the Art Space through the end of June. Read Helen's artist bio.

United Women in Faith Gather for Mission u in July

In celebration of our Community and Creativity, Iowa United Women in Faith will gather in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, July 13. Two squares on the specially created altar cloth will represent our St. Paul’s UWFaith unit. Rhoda Preston created this multi-colored people block, and Nancy Horn put together the image of diversity in community. Thanks to them, our commitment to community and diversity at St. Paul’s will be represented as we celebrate our experiences of faith and reach out in love.

Four St. Paul’s women – Barb Oakland, Kate Buroker, Ute Adams, and Tamera Preston are excited to attend. Would you like to join us to discover more about the amazing faith and work of United Women in Faith? Our St. Paul’s UWFaith unit will pay your registration and transportation! Just contact one of the four of us for more information.
