What is Connections Ministry?

Connections is a volunteer-led and -run ministry that provides meaningful connections and activities for adults with early-stage dementia and respite for their caregivers. Connections program participants and volunteers meet weekly on Tuesday mornings. Time together includes social time, music, light exercise, games, activities, and lunch, often featuring guest presenters and speakers for education and fun. The Connections ministry grew out of committee work at the Family Caregivers Center of Mercy with the St. Paul’s Congregational Care Team beginning in 2018 with planning and initial implementation. Today, St. Paul’s is one of three different Connections Clubs in the community offering this support and care.

Love one another as I have loved you.

John 15:12-13 NRSVUE

Yesterday, Connections was buzzing as a local beekeeper taught us about bees and the beekeeping process. Connections is a weekly ministry for adults with early-stage dementia that also provides respite for their caregivers.

On day 2 of our Young Leaders Camp, students learned about what it means and looks like to build strong communities—communities that love, support, and care for one another. For our service project, students joined our Connections ministry for adults with early-stage dementia in dog-themed bingo. Other students created cards to be given to Connections participants and volunteers. We can't wait to see what the next two days of Young Leaders Camp will bring!
