Creation Care & Environmental Justice

Loving God’s Creation

The earth and all its inhabitants belong to God—human and non-human, too. The flourishing of all parts of creation is tied up together. When one part suffers, the whole is affected. God calls us to tend faithfully to the Earth and one another.

We believe that matters of creation care and environmental justice require an urgent response from the church.

Caring for the Earth

St. Paul’s focuses on care for the environment and human health. Our goal is to educate and provide opportunities for the church to be good stewards of that which is in our care. We have done so through film screenings, workshops and classes, blog posts, swap events, and tabling at EcoFest Cedar Rapids. To reduce waste at St. Paul’s, we created a Food Serving Policy, and we collect compostable food scraps from meals served in our facilities.

Tending to the Sacred

Terra Divina is a practice of reading the “Book of Creation” that spreads and stretches around us. We gather monthly year-round in almost any weather at Indian Creek Nature Center to engage in conversation with nature and tune into the seasons playing out on the landscape. We practice Terra Divina independently, but we come together to share our insights along with bread and herbal tea. Through spending time in nature, we understand that we are a part of nature. Join us as we care for God’s creation. Learn about upcoming events.
