Funerals

Times of Mourning

A Time of Transition

The ministry of the church at the time of death is a ministry of Christ’s healing.

At St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, we are most concerned that you and your loved ones are well cared for during this time of loss.

Final Moments of Life

If you need support before, during, or after the death of a loved one, we are here to help. When someone is very ill and nearing the end of life, our pastors can come and pray with you. Just call the church at 319-363-2058.

If it’s after office hours, please email Pastor Jonathan, and the on-call pastor will get back to you as soon as possible.

Honoring and Reflecting

After a loved one has died, our pastors and staff can help organize a service at the church, funeral home, or graveside, depending on your family’s wishes.

We believe in the hope of eternal life through Christ, and we offer this hope to the family and friends of the departed.

Columbarium

The Chapel in the lower level of St. Paul’s has a columbarium, a room where urns containing cremated remains are stored (inurned). For those who have made St. Paul’s their church home, the Chapel may be a natural choice of a final resting place.

The columbarium was started in 1981 by Cedar Rapids businessman Robert Armstrong and his family; he and his wife Esther have been inurned there. The columbarium wall has 400 niches for cremains, with about one-third of those still open and not reserved.

Current and former church members interested in reserving a niche are invited to call the church office for more information.

What Do I Do Now?

When there is a death, please contact the church at 319-363-2058 or any of the pastoral staff (at home after hours) as soon as possible. We are ready to assist you. Your pastoral preference will be honored whenever possible.

After Hours: Rev. Jonathan Heifner, Lead Pastor

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
