Empowering Our Youth

Making a Difference
At St. Paul’s, we believe students (6th-12th grade) should experience a safe place where they can gather with others their age, be formed in faith, and be sent into the world to be Difference Makers because of the love of Jesus. We do this through the study of scripture, music, worship, fellowship, and mission work in service to our church, community, and across the nation.

Youth Co-Op
Youth Co-Op is a safe, welcoming, and collaborative youth group for students in grades 6–12. Our current partner churches are Lovely Lane, St. Paul’s, and Trinity St. James UMC. We are committed to creating a space where all students are embraced—regardless of race, ethnicity, abilities, gender identity, expression, or sexual orientation. Our ministry provides opportunities for fun, service, learning, and faith exploration in a supportive environment led by caring adults. Students are encouraged to attend when their schedules allow—whether weekly, monthly, or occasionally. Friends are always welcome!
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at various locations for service projects, community-building activities, fellowship, and opportunities for spiritual growth. We also meet Wednesdays at St. Paul’s for youth group from 6:15–7:30 p.m. Each session begins with sharing our highs and lows, followed by games or activities, and concludes with a lesson that helps students connect their faith to everyday life. Youth build meaningful friendships while growing in their relationship with God in a welcoming and supportive community.

Confirmation
Confirmation is an opportunity to respond to the grace of God available to us, as acknowledged in baptism, and to promise to live as a person of faith. According to a resource on baptism from The United Methodist Church, “Confirmation and reaffirmation are our responses of commitment, profession of faith, and re-dedication.”
Traditionally students participate in confirmation in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. However, high school students are also welcome to join.

Service-Learning Trips
At St. Paul’s, students have the opportunity to participate in service-learning trips each summer. These trips are typically week-long educational and volunteer opportunities where students and adults work hand-in-hand with community partners in the cities we visit.
Participating in these trips changes students by teaching them to care more about the world around them.

Youth Music
Students in grades 7–12 are invited to join Youth Music on Sunday mornings after worship for a variety of musical experiences that encourage participation in worship and help students grow in their gifts. Youth have opportunities to play handbells and other instruments, sing as a group, participate in drama, and more. Our welcoming and inclusive environment helps students develop their musical skills, deepen their faith, and build meaningful friendships while serving in worship. Youth Music is led by Dr. Mark Baumann, CAGO, Coordinator of Music Ministries.

Meet our Director of Family Ministries
Welcome to Youth Ministries here at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. My name is Becca Nims, and I’m the Director of Family Ministries. Our desire in youth ministries is to foster an environment where young people can be authentic and know they belong in God’s family.
Youth are not just the church’s future; they are the church of today!
I look forward to getting the chance to meet you.
From Our Socials
Catch a glimpse of the joy and fellowship that make St. Paul’s a special place for youth.
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12 NRSVUE

Last night in Youth Co-Op, students learned about the Prayer of Examen by playing Temple Run, a tag and scavenger hunt game. Students raced to find and unscramble the different parts of the prayer, and then practiced the Prayer of Examen together. Youth Co-Op is a safe, welcoming, and collaborative youth group for students in grades 6–12 from several area churches.

This week Youth Co-Op had fun learning to cook for a cause. Students made burritos that will go to Green Square Meals to help feed those in our community who are hungry. A special thanks to Michelle Langston for helping us!

Beatrice Ndikumana recently participated in our Youth Co-Op Be the Neighbor service learning trip to St. Louis. Yesterday in worship, she shared a bit about her experience. To help St. Paul's continue to offer experiences like this and to grow through vibrant ministries with children, youth, and families, please consider pledging your generosity to the church in 2027. I loved watching this. Thank you for championing accessibility! If it's not accessible, it's not acceptable. ❤️ I am so hopeful for this next generation who is looking out for ways to make the world a better place for people who with differences.

Youth Co-Op kicked off the year with games and a devotion about how we schedule our time and give our bodies time to rest. Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join Youth Co-Op every Wednesday and on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month for fun, fellowship, and faith.

Tonight's the big night! All families are invited to join us for the Back to School Bash at 6:15 p.m. We’ll gather in the circle drive and playground area on 3rd Avenue for an evening of fun for the whole family. Come experience our new playground, enjoy games for all ages, trade Pokémon cards, enjoy a light dinner, and register for our fall programs. Let's celebrate the start of a new season of learning, growing, and connecting at St. Paul’s!
Note: due to the heat - food and most activities will be indoors in the youth wing.
